Rogue One: A Star Wars Story goes $500 million mark worldwide

Having fended off competition from Passengers and Assassin’s Creed to maintain top spot at the box office over the Xmas weekend, Lucasfilm’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has now passed the half billion mark globally.

Rogue One grossed $64.4 million over the Friday to Sunday period in North America, with a further $471.1 million from the worldwide markets to push its total haul to $523.8 million and counting. The Gareth Edwards-directed Anthology film will receive a bump this week when it opens in South Korea on Wed, and will also make its way to China on Jan 6th.

From Lucasfilm comes the 1st of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a objective to grab the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s greatest weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do outstanding things, and in doing so, become part of something higher than themselves.
