Yahoo has declared that it is closing down the legacy system of its chat service Yahoo Messenger. The company has asked all its users to transition to the new version presented last year. The old Yahoo Messenger will not work from Aug 5 this year.
The chat support has been around since 1998, and was very popular among Indian users then. The old version saw a loss of users list eventually, with several new services rising to the front, including Google Talk, social networking sites like Facebook, myspace, and smart phone chat applications like WhatsApp. Yahoo tried recover its Messenger support by upgrading its Android and iOS applications, apart from its Web version last year in Dec.
It introduced along a completely new design, and many new features. The best among them was the new Unsend function, which allows users to go back over their actions and undo sending messages. Describing its move, Yahoo Chief Designer Amotz Maimon says, “In Dec of 2015, we declared a product new Yahoo Messenger for mobile, the Web and in Yahoo Email on the pc, designed on a new contemporary system. This finish update delivers users an extremely fast, wonderful and intelligent way to send – and unsend – messages, images and animated GIFs in 1:1 and group conversations. While today we provide primary interoperation between the legacy product and the new Messenger, we encourage all of our users to finish their transition to the new Yahoo Messenger as we will no longer support the legacy system as of Aug 5, 2016. We plan to continue our targeted initiatives on the new Messenger, with a purpose of providing the best experience to our users”.
After Aug 5, users won’t be able to gain access to the old Yahoo Messenger, and it is suggested to transition to the new Messenger applications on web and mobile.
